Due to a lack of funds, the August 14 event at Kansas Speedway has been cancelled. Most likely the October 24 event will be cancelled as well. Some unexpected (retroactive) fees from the Speedway will make it impossible to hold the next event, if not the rest of the season.
There are multiple reasons as to why this has happened: Even though the club was on hiatus last year, there were still expenses and no income, so the treasury was down at the start of the season. Lot rental at the Speedway increased by 50% over 2008, which means even with increasing our event fees, we have a higher break even point. Attendance is down (averaging around 40 drivers) which means that we haven’t had enough people at the events to refresh the treasury. Finally, sitting for a year was not kind to the truck, so the rusty gas tank caused many issues. Questionable work from a couple of shops didn’tlp.
Bottom line is that there isn’t egh money in the treasury to hold the next event. The future of the season and of Crown Autocross will be discussed at the August 10 meeting (7 PM, The Pizza Shoppe, Overland Park, 95th and Nall). Crown members are urged to be there.
Crown members should also expect an email by the end of the week.
